An American Point of View 
I taught in an urban school located in the most violent police precinct of a large city. This precinct lost several officers in the line of duty in a short span. The school had a great relationship with the precinct. Officers came to visit the school several times per year. They formed mentorships with students that spilled into their personal time. I got to know several officers. All were upstanding. One was a parent of one of the students in the school. Their jobs were rough; I mean really rough. Despite the foul treatment they received in the community they served, they gave back in a meaningful way. I had the utmost respect for them.
