The Apprentice

Unless the Lord builds a house, the work of the builders is useless. (Psalm 127:1)

Well I am no builder of homes, but I think i understand the basic concept here, Christ, the master carpenter, must be part of the team. We must include God in all we build up here on earth or it will crumble, and fall to the ground.

There are many references in the bible to building things, Christ is referred to as the cornerstone, he himself is a carpenter, and I do not think that was a mistake.

We are called to create, to build up and to make heaven on earth. We are obligated, as Catholic Christians to build up the faith, to convert the lost souls and make a home for them here on earth, mainly the Church her self.

We are all carpenters in our own ways, we are all building something, weather it be our own family, our company or job, education or retirement. The question is now, are you a carpenter unto yourself or are you an apprentice under the master carpenter?

Me, I’m an apprentice, I am learning my trade, and making a lot of mistakes along that way, many of the structures I have built have come crashing down around me. The foundations may have been flawed or the load bearing walls may not have been plum, what ever the reason, they crashed down. Some structures lasted longer than others and some remain unfinished because I am not yet ready to complete them, the master has yet to teach me what I need to know to do so. Well, maybe it’s not that he has not taught me, but maybe my skills just are not yet good enough yet, I am still an apprentice learning all he can from the master.

One day I hope to build a home worthy of the masters teaching, but I know I still have lots to learn, so until than I will continue to build flawed structures,  knowing that they will one day collapse under the strain of life, but each one being a little stronger than the last. And one day I will finished the ones I started but was not strong enough or talented enough to complete.
