Catholics Wake Up

We are often called to do thing and go places that we do not want to do or go. We are called out of town, or even out of the country for our job, or the kids have a tournament on the weekend, and you really don’t want to do it.

Or Mass on Sunday interferes with our plans to visit friends, or go to the sporting event.We all have had that, so what do we do? Well if it’s our job, we have to go, if it’s our kid, we do what we have to do. Sometimes life happens. But we have to look at it closely, is it interfering with our life? Is our relationship with God being compromised, is our family life being pushed aside? All these questions and more need to be looked at.So what would Jesus do? (WWJD)

Jn 7:1-2, 10, 25-30Jesus moved about within Galilee;he did not wish to travel in Judea,because the Jews were trying to kill him.But the Jewish feast of Tabernacles was near.But when his brothers had gone up to the feast,he himself also went up, not openly but as it were in secret.

As we read, Jesus was faced with a problem that makes ours pale in comparison. He was facing arrest and death, we face a inconvenience. Big difference…

The Church tells us we are obligated to attend Mass, when it is possible. So does a sporting event on Sunday morning trump Mass? Does a Kid’s tournament trump Mass? An out of town meeting?

We are obliged to attend Mass, the Church will not and cannot revoke our Catholic faith from us, they don’t take attendance, although some will say our weekly donation envelope is attendance. But it is still our obligation!

So who will know if you miss Mass, or don’t attend?

The over all Church community will, remember we are all one body, one body of Christ, and the universal Church. (By the way Catholic means Universal).

Your kid’s will notice, so what are you teaching them? Mass really is not all that important.

You will notice, your soul will be deprived it’s food, the Mass. 

 And God will notice.

God, and the Church, understand that life happens, that sometimes there is just no way you can attend Mass, your sick, your kid is sick, your on the plane traveling between point A to B. All are reasons to miss, God and the Church, knows your heart and knows your intentions.

The Mass is the summit of our faith, it is where we receive the Body, Soul and Divinity of our Lord, Jesus the Christ in the Holy Eucharist. Why would we want to miss that? Why would we want to skip that?

A friend once told me they heard a baptist minister on the radio, and he was saying that

“If Catholic really believed that the bread and wine was truly the Body and Blood of Christ, we [Catholics] would crawl to Mass on Sundays to receive it.”

How sad!

How sad that a Baptist minister see how we take for granted the true presence of Christ!

We are a sad faith, when we can and do choose a sporting event over Christ, or are just to tiered to be bothered!

We are a broken body, when our brothers and sisters in Christ, choose not to attend Mass. How sad!

We need to wake up, and smell the coffee, we need to be Catholics, is our words and actions.
