Storm of Humanity

Quiet! Be Still! Now they don’t sound like words Jesus would say, but he did.He said it and it happened. It was a miracle. I bet all of us who deal with children or have our own wish that would work for us. But for the most part it does not work that way. We say it, they still do what they want.

Really it’s not much different from ourselves, do we really listen to what we have to say? Or what we are told. For the most part no. For example, we all know working out is good for us, we all say, I am going to start to work out, but we never do, or if we do, we give up to easily. God talks to us all the time, but do we listen? Most of us would have to say no. Do we really hear Gods commandments, or his loving praise of us. I would have to say NO! Most of us do not.

How can I say this about you, when I don’t even know you. Take a look around you, look at the world we live in, if we truly heard the voice of God, the world would not be as it is. Even our own Catholic Church does not always hear the voice of God. Look at her servants, and all the corruption and wrong doings going on.

So why can’t we hear the voice of God, or why don’t we hear it? Because we are in a storm, a storm of humanity. The winds of the self are blowing strong, the waves of despair are rocking our boats. We are in a storm, a very bad Storm, and only Jesus can calm the storm. Only God can command it to be still.

But like all of the graces God gives us, we must be willing to accept it, and for the most part we do not. It interrupts our day, or it may make us feel like we are missing out. But we fail to see that in the calm of the storm, we can see the sun (son) shinning.

We all need to hear Jesus command us to “Quiet! Be Still!” so we can hear the voice of God. So we can be free of the storm of humanity.

 Mark 4:37-39

A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”

He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.

So Be quiet and still, let the waves of humanity no more upset your boat, and let the sun shine on you. In Christ all is safe, all is calm, all is as it should be.
