Friends

Rubik's Cube, color scheme modified, with shad...

Image via Wikipedia

You are influenced more than you think by the people that you surround yourself with. Look around – are those around you a positive force in your life – or are they a negative influence?

Do your friends uplift you – or are they always a "downer"? Do they support whatever you are doing – or do they tell you that whatever you are involved with will never work?

The people that you hang out with can have a definite influence on you. You need to make sure that your friends and associates are of a positive and enthusiastic mindset. Always surround yourself with positive "can do" people.

You also need to make sure that you are limiting time with those that are negative. Psychologists have proven that continued association with critical, complaining people can be enough to sabotage all your opportunities for success.

That can be hard. You may be living with someone like that – or a close friend may be. So, you really can’t just not talk to your spouse – but you can talk to them and let them know what a negative influence that they are on you. They may not even know it. And, look at it this way – if you stay positive and enthusiastic about life – maybe you can be a positive influence on them!

But, if they are just acquaintances that are always negative, the best thing to do is to limit the time that you spend with them. You want to associate yourself with people with positive energy, those going somewhere in their lives and, basically those that you would like to be with.

The funny thing is, once you become a totally positive and enthusiastic person – you’ll attract like-minded people to you!

Characters of the Passion: A reading for Lent

I just finished the book, Characters of the Passion, by Fulton J. Sheen, one of two books I am read for Lent, the other is also a Sheen book, The Cross and the Beatitudes. If you have never read a Sheen book, I would recommend it, he is a gifted writer, and has a way of making God’s words seem present in todays world. The book, Characters of the Passion was written in 1947, it still holds true today.

Being only 94 pages, it is an easy read  for anyone who wants to deepen there faith. Divided into seven chapters, Sheen walks the reader through the passion of Christ using the characters of the passion, from Peter to Judas and Herod and others. Each person teaching a lesson of the passion. Sheen has the ability to give sight to the reader, sight into the mindset of the person and of the actions going on. We feel the pain of betrayal Peter must have felt and the utter disperse of Judas, the contempt of Herod and the befuddlement of Barabbas. Each giving the reader a new insight in the Passion of our Dear Lord.

The words of Sheen are timeless and true, Sheen was a visionary of our times, he saw the failings of the Western Culture and writes about it with in the pages of this book. He gives solid advice on what we, Christians, need to do and the failure to do so.  If you read no other spiritual book this year, I would recommend that you read this one, make is a Lenten reading, devote 5 minutes per day, and you will see the Passion in a whole new light.

God Bless

Thanksgiving

Illustration of Jim and Huckleberry Finn, by E...

Image via Wikipedia

Thanksgiving, an American holiday… Yes I know Canada has thanksgiving also, but I am talking about the American Thanksgiving, our Holiday, our day to give thanks. In todays politically correct world I am shocked that someone has not mandated that we change the name from Thanksgiving to something like, I am Sorry Day or Apology Day. Based on what the schools are teaching, the white Europeans came to this utopia and killed everyone off. That this land was a paradise, the native Americans lived in harmony with each other and the land. In fact many think the movie “Avatar” represents the struggle of the native Indians. This is not completely true, the native Americans, like Europeans, had many diverse nations with in America, some peaceful others not so much.

The first settlers of America from Europe came to the shores of this great land to find freedom, they came to carve out a new life in the wilderness, to establish a life for themselves. No it was not always a peaceful co-existence between the natives and the pilgrims, yes killing took place, on both sides. What we have to understand and take into consideration is the times this took place in. the mindset of the collective world. We cannot hold the past responsible for actions taken them based on morals and standards of today. Times were different, and the native Americans and the Pilgrims and other Europeans reacted based on standards and norms of the day.

This is one of the main faults of the political correct movement, the norms of a society change, yet we feel that todays norms, the norms of 2010 should be applied to all times. Books such as ‘Huck Finn” are being banned based on todays political correct mindset, generations of youth will never know the genius of Mark Twain. History books are being re-write to fit into the political correct world, and leaving the facts to fall into the political correct obis. Sure, we as a Nation have made mistakes, as have every Nation, including the Native American Indian Nations. No Nation is perfect, but we also have made many positive contributions to the world, he have fostered peace among Nations and Peoples. We have established a democracy that is the envy of the world and we have created a Nation where all have a say and all are equal. Yes we have a long way to go, but we also have come a long way.

This Thanksgiving, give thanks for all that we, as a Nation, are thankful for, give thanks for the freedoms our fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters have fought for, give thanks for the freedom to disagree with this post and the freedom to express your own feelings.

Happy Thanksgiving and God Bless

Paul

I for one am glad Obama was elected

Barack Obama, President of the United States o...

Image via Wikipedia

Yep, I said it, I said something I thought that I would never say, I said I was glad Obama was voted president of The United States of America. Anyone who knows me, or has read my blogs must be in shock, but I mean it.

If Obama was not elected president, we the American people would be a nation with less over all knowledge than we are now. We would not know how great America truly is, we would not understand the issues that concern each and every American at the very core of our being.

With out Obama we would be in a sadder state than we could ever imagine.  Yep, I truly believe that. Now all my conservative friends are most likely shaking their heads and wondering what the hell happen to me, and all my liberal friends are celebrating in the streets….

So let me tell you why I am glad Obama was elected president:

Social issues:

Without the Obama presidency we would not truly understand the poor, there needs and how to best address them. We would not have the mindset of big government and a socialistic understanding to social issues. The understanding the big government with billions of tax payer dollars is the solution. Not the conservative understanding the a hand up is worth much more, and cost much less. We, the American people, would still feel that donations to the charity of our own choosing was the smart way to go, the compassionate way. But thanks to the Obama plan, I know understand that I am to stupid to decide where my money should go, and I now understand that it is demeaning to expect people who are in need to want to work for it, to better themselves. I was young and uneducated before the Obama nation came into power.

America:

Prior to Obama and company, I was under the understanding that America was something to be proud of. But thanks to his “Apology” tour I am now saves. Like any good old fashion revival I came to the tent and was preached the gospel of Obama and the meanness of America and all her evils. Prior to the baptism into Obamaisum I preached the greatness of a nation know to come to the defense of any nation in need, friend or foe/ I was brainwashed in to the “group think” of the moral compass that America was directed by, I believed in the hype of a nation known for her charity, a nation whose people donated more money to national and international charities than the US government. I use to proudly tell all that I was an American, but thanks to my conversion, I now apologize for my nation and beg for forgiveness at the feet of the UN and EU.

The American People:

The American people use to be a source of pride for me, my culture was truly unique and truly American. And I was proud of it, that is until Obama reminded me of how stupid we really are. I always thought Americans were known for their ingenuity and smarts, but Obama reminded me that we are nothing and will remain nothing until we submit to the government all that we have and all that we are, in the name of fairness.

So yes, I for one am glad the Obama is president, that the conservatives of the country, the flag waving, smaller government and more personal responsibility party did not win. Just think what would have happen, we would have Americans working, an economy that was thriving and an America we all could be proud of. Thank God that didn’t happen.

Nope, Obama, he’s our man….

And if you disagree with me, than make your voice heard and vote on November 2nd… I know I am, I know I am voting in the conservatives in my local and national elections. I am voting in a smaller government and a government that believes in America and Americans….

And just incase any liberals are reading the blog, It was all in fun, I am not glad Obama is president, but I do think he has woken the sleeping giant, the conservative base. This nation is about the rocked to its core, its conservative core. We will win, and we will restore America back to what she once was, the greatest nation on earth. God Bless America!

God Bless

Paul

A conservative look at the school system

FeaturedImage With school being out, and so much in the news about so many school districts having to cut back or close schools I thought I would offer some help to them.

1. As for cutting the over all budget follow the following steps

  • Remove the socialistic system that hampers the teachers and the schools from best serving the students (i.e. cut the unions out)
  • Fire all incompetent teachers and administrators, NOW, no arbitration, no review, your gone!
  • Remove all sill programs that use up tax dollars, there is no need to offer free condoms in schools, they think they are old enough to have sex, than they are old enough to purchase there own.
  • Return all power to local districts, with the tax dollars feeding directly into their budgets removing the state and federal level of involvement

2. As for adding funds to the budget

  • Allow the schools to sell marketing spots, keeping in mind that all marketing campaigns would have to be okayed by the schools and parents

3. As for the curriculum

  • Remove classes that should be up to the parents/caretakers to teach (i.e. sex Ed)
  • Allow local districts to determine the curriculum that meets the needs of their schools, the state nor the federal government should be involved in this. Local mayor or township officials should be charged with executive authority.
  • Allow schools to develop curriculums that meets the needs of the student body and surrounding area. In a more urban environment the needs are different than a rural, so why should the state or federal government dictate the curriculum.

4. Other innovations and ideas

  • Allow tax dollars to be spent by the parents/care takes at what ever school they decide is the best for there child. If the local public school works well for them so be it, if its the local Catholic or Jewish school so be it. Education of the child is up to the parent not the state.
  • Return to local smaller schools, truly community based. Allowing the students to form stronger bonds with the community and each other. If your thinking that this will increase the cost of educating our children, with the elimination of unnecessary positions and other wasteful programs  such as bussing (no need in neighborhood schools)
  • Remove all state and national testing. Test are not true and accurate evaluations of the abilities of students. Nor are the fair to the teachers or educational system.
  • Allow the free market system to dictate what school programs work and don’t work. As parents exercise there ability to choose the school they wish to send there child to, the under performing schools will have to revamp or close down and the tax dollars dry up.

The education of our children should be paramount to us all. Our future as a town, city, county, state and country depends on them all. As we continue to monkey with the education of our children, trying this new way verses this new way we are jeopardizing the future of our children and ourselves.

The new math accomplished only one thing, confusing all us parents and gardens who learned the old math. The age of a new and kinder school (i.e. not flunking any one, no bad grades  etc..) accomplished a few things 1) we now have a generation of illiterate graduates 2) and a generation of people who truly believe they should get what ever they want because they are want it.

We have failed!

We have failed our children, we have robbed them of the opportunity to learn and grow. We have allowed the liberal minded tree hugging pacifist to dictate the education of our children. We have allowed the socialistic teachers unions to control our children and indoctrinate them in to the liberal army of drones to do their bidding. We have granted all access control of our family unites to the very people who wish to destroy it, and we do it with smiles on our faces as they pick our pockets for every last dollar.

The current state of education in this country is in a crises, we are failing to prepare our youth for the world that is out there. Instead of educating them on the founding fathers or the advances the American way of life offers to millions of people, we show them Al Gores “An Inconvenient Truth”. A documentary that has been proven, in a British court, to contain at least 7 out-an-out lies! When we should be teaching our youth respect and honor we are teaching them the many ways to use a condom or how to self pleasure yourself. As we sit back and demand that our students are tolerant of all, we teach them to hate any who’s views are not that of the liberal mindset.

We have failed our youth!

We have allowed the passage of time to decay a once great system, once a system envied by the world and now a system that soon, if things do not change, will be envied by no one and used as an example of what not to do. Education is not to be used as a political grandstand, nor is it to be used as a replacement of the parents or guardians who are charged with caring for them. We, the American public must take a stand, a stand for our future a stand for our children!

A system that is intent on political correctness over the truth is a system destined to fail. The current sociopolitical atmosphere is charged and waiting. The storm of true reform is brewing over the horizon, just out of sight of the naked eye. The rolling thunder of a revolution can be heard in the cafes and town halls all over this great nation. The lighting of reform will strike soon and the rains of educational purification will cleans the system. But this storm will not arrive until we, the people, stand and take charge of our children and there education.

The days of Reading Writing and Arithmetic are long behind us, but we can get them back, he just have to want it bad enough. I know I do, do you?

God Bless

Paul

This is my body

A monument dedicated to the unborn victims of ...

Image via Wikipedia

In a soft voice, full of concern it was spoken. “This is my body”. It was spoken with a love that was felt by all and it lofted lightly in the air waiting for the soft breeze  to carry it away.

Contrast that with the biting words being spoken, words that hurt and kill, so heavy they fall to the ground, “This is my body!” A soft breeze could not carry it away, not even a gale force wind. The words hang like death in the air.

The contrast between the same phrase is striking, remarkable, yet they are spoken daily. The fist are spoke daily by our Lord, “This is my body given up for you” the second spoke by thousands daily “This is my body, I will do with it what I please!” are spoke by woman who are confused and lost and seek answers in abortion.

Our Lord offered up freely His life, the unborn offer up their body under force. The contrast is striking and shocking. Modern day thought is one of “personal freedom” yet freedom is not the outcome but rather slavery. Slavery to the modern ideal that freedom is doing what you want regardless of who it affects.

Everyday 4000 lives are lost in at war. The lives have no voice with in the congress nor do they sit on large company boards, yet everyday someone makes a decision for them. A decision that their life is not worth it, that they are expendable that they can be forgotten about and can be sacrifices in the war. The war on human dignity, a war on the unborn.

President Obama and others claim to be “pro-choice” yet the one they are affecting have no voice, they can exercise no-choice! How can we as a nation who claim to be one of peace and non-violence (excluding defending ourselves) murder 4000 new lives each and every day?

Four thousand (4000) lives daily, more lives have been killed than in the wars of modern history, yet the peace loving non violent left allow this, they not only allow it they encourage it! The contradiction is striking and one that needs to be called out, one that needs to be rectified!

I am pro-life, I am male and I am Catholic. I am proud to write this blog to defend the 4000 lives that will be lost today, and I hope all pro-choice people will be as proud to let there voices be heard. Write a blog, forward mine, send a letter to your representative or to President Obama, ask them to clarify how they can justify the murder of 4000 Americans each and every day, how can they look at themselves in the mirror knowing that they allow murder to take place each and every day.

“This is my body” are you hearing the soft gentle loving voice of Christ or the harsh scared hate filled voice of the culture of death? Was the body given up freely out of love and sacrifice or was it offered up to the alter of modernism and individualism? Are you truly pro-life or are you of the mindset, well I’m pro-life, but they have to make their own decisions? are you allowing the murder of 4000 babies each and everyday to take place with out even offering up a prayer?  Pro-life can not and should not mean sitting still and silent, it can not mean that, non-action is the same as participation. Be it abortion or any other social sin. We must act!

Not all are called to join pro-life movement, I for one am not, I do not belong to one and I truly do not feel the calling to one. But as a Catholic Christian I am called to defend the poor and helpless, and who is more helpless than the unborn? I try to teach the sacredness of life in all I do, and every now and than I try to write about it, maybe not as direct as this, but I try to offer what I can. I will not vote for a pro-choice candidate and I will not support many organizations that donate to pro-choice causes. I do what I can, with the grace of God and the gifts He has given me. Do you?

Just keep in mind the words of our Lord:

“This is my body, given up for you”

God Bless

The dilemma

Thomas Aquinas stained glass window.

Image via Wikipedia

I am finding more and more the richness of the Holy Bible, the more I learn the more little nuggets of truth I discover. As I was listening to Catholic Talks on CD’s (yes I know I have been on about these CD’s for days’… but I just keep finding something new in them) I have be re-wakened the the depth of knowledge each little passage contains. It amazes me that one word or phrase can contain a life changing truth.

As the owner and creator* of STATIC Solutions, a Catholic company the produces educational materials for middle school youth, I am always on the look out for new ideas, new bits and pieces of truth that can be used to excite and deepen the faith life of the youth and the adults who are charged with imparting the truth. I find that it’s not hard to find that one passage or phrase the hard part is deciding what one.

I have just started to develop some new material, I am in the beginning stage were I need to play the concept out, I need to define what it is I am looking for (or as the case maybe, what God is trying to get me to do). This process involves the selection of the main theme that is to run through the book, what basic idea or truth is the book to depart. It is a long process, one that sometimes takes months or even years, yes I have a few ideas that have been sitting in my head for years.

It’s interesting, because as I listened to the CDs I discovered that I could write whole books, teach a whole class on just on passage or phrase. The depth of that phrase or passage could fill volumes. I could take the simple phrase “I Thirst” or “You are Peter” and build a course around them. This is my new dilemma…. What phrase or word or passage do I use, how do I use it and what do I do with it.

The concept of STATIC Solutions program is to take the youth deeper in to the faith, to really look at one area, to show them the richness of that phrase or person or book. Each of our classroom books look at a subsection of the over all concepts. For example the one of the books is entirely on the Exodus of the Israelites for Egypt. We spend five sessions doing nothing but recounting the Exodus and it’s meaning to us today and it’s part in Salvation History. We dive in to the mindset of the Israelites and Mosses, we place ourselves into the moment and feel the desert heat on our backs and the aches and pains of the long walk. Our hearts break over the sinfulness of Gods people, yet we can see ourselves in the humanity of them all. It is five sessions that truly take us back in time. Each of our course books deals with a subset such as that, rather than covering the whole Old Testament in five weeks or even fifteen, we choose to create an experience that will envelop the youth, take hold of their imaginations and souls and with God grace, create a conversation moment for them.

Our philosophy is why “dump” thousands of years of Salvation History on them, it is better to give them nuggets of truth that will excite them and enlighten them, than it is to drowned them is Christian history. If it has taken the Catholic Church over two thousand years to come to Her understanding of the faith, why should we expect our youth to do it in eight years? Is it not better to give them the thirst for knowledge and truth than to drowned them in it?

So as you can see my dilemma is how to take the beauty of the book of Job and turn it into a five session gem, or to take the phrase “I Thirst” and keep it to only five sessions. The glory of God and the Catholic Church can never be contained in the mind of man, yet alone in books. Yet this is what I attempt to do, this is the calling I have answered and the challenge I am tasked with.

The CDs are examples of this, year of the speakers could have went on for hours and hours, if not days. Yet they were confined to thirty minute or one hour at most. To take the vastness of Gods glory and condense it into a book or talk… The concept is truly, well its just mind blowing.

This is what I love about my faith, the fact that each day I can learn and grow, that a passage I have heard one hundred times before can suddenly take on a whole new meaning.  That the truth of the faith keeps growing or should I say that my understanding of the truth keeps growing. That the smallest of details sometimes are the greatest of truths.

The challenges given to me to create the programs I create are a life lesson in humility and faith, and yes the CDs I listened to reminded me of this very fact. They have created in me a new desire to research and learn and to create. As the STATIC Solutions tag line reads “Educate ~ Innovate ~ Create… that is me calling and one I am willing to answer.

God Bless

Paul

The Church and the Public Square

The past month or so I have been asked or confronted with the statements about the Catholic faith. Most often from Catholics themselves. The questions range from the very basic to the very deep and for the most part the statements have almost always been anti-conservatism or pro-liberalism if you like. Me I look at them differently, I see most of the statements as anti-Catholic. But the liberals would tell me that I ma being closed minded and pre-Vatican 2 in my thinking. IT’s interesting how some can get such a different perspective on the documents of Vatican 2 than others (most others that is). Liberals are a small minority of our faith yet they seem to have such a strong hold on the faith.

Much like the political life, conservatives out number liberals, yet they [the liberals] seem to be able to convince the public that they are a majority. Interesting sociology study, if your into that sort of thing. I am, but have no interest in research, me I like to shoot from the hip, use my innate ability to always be right… It’s a gift and I am proud of it…. (For those that don’t know it, I am joking)

But back to the interesting part of all this, how can liberals do this, what power do they have that allows them to dupe the whole country in to thinking they have a majority. Obama was able to do it to win an election, but the funny thing is, I can’t find one person who said they voted for him. Yet the democratic party is able to claim they represent the majority, but the polls in the paper tell a different story.

The public square and the Church are really not all the different in a lot of ways. Both need human interaction to function in this physical world and both rely on humanity to run them. In the case of the Church we have priest, deacons and the laity to do the bidding and in the public square we have the peoples and politicians. Although lately it seems as if it is more often then not the special interest groups running the country. The few have replace the many in the name of “diversity” “fairness” and “political correctness”. The public square and the Church are suffering the same fate.

A fate of losing it’s identity, the fate of becoming bland and flavorless. We have created a generation of youth who are afraid to give opinions, for fear of offending someone. We have created a society that would rather live in the lie of “political correctness” than in the truth of reality.

The prayers at Church have been affected much in the same way public life has, Wal-Mart refused to wish shoppers a “Merry Christmas” for fear of offending some but not concerned about the others who may be offended by being wished “Happy Holidays”. The same is true in our prayers, each week we recite the creed as Mass, and each week about 1/2 the parishioners refuse to acknowledge that Jesus was a man, for fear of offending any woman that may be in attendance. “Born of the Virgin Mary and became man [human]”. Yes Jesus is human, and yes he did come down for all, and yes Jesus is God and yes God is neither male of female. But Jesus was born into a human body, and that body happened to be male. By overlooking his maleness you are overlooking in personhood. Jesus was man, Mary was woman…. Adam was man, Eve was woman…. It’s the way it works… Male and Female he made them both…

The political correctness has cheapened and diluted the sexuality of humanity! Not only in the Church but also in the public square! As Americans and as Catholics we must take back our  faith and public squares from the liberals who’s only goal is to strip all sense of uniqueness from them.

The very people who claim to want to “free” us are truly binding us. It is the liberal mindset that is imposing morality (or lack of it) upon us all. With in the Church the liberals will insist that the prayers be changed and that gender neutral terms be used. Yet it is only the male terms that are changed, never the female form. Example: “The fall of man” is acceptable because it degrades man, yet it was Eve who first ate from the tree, so why are there no cries for it to be changed to “The fall of woman”? The liberals are willing to except the term, when it degrade the others, the non-protected group, in this case males. Yet Jesus, who is male, should not be referred to as such for fear of offending a female. Nor should God be referred to as the Father, for fear that someone may dislike the image. Yet God himself (of should I say he/she self) uses the father image to describe himself. I have heard the argument that what if someone had an abusive father, so therefore calling God the Father may make them feel bad. Truly I feel for anyone who has been abused, but using the same logic, what about Jesus as a brother, what if someone’s brother hurt them or died and they can’t deal with calling Jesus a brother, or how about a youths who’s mother ran out on them, should we than stop calling Mary the mother of Jesus because it may offend? Or better yet Mary can’t be called a Mother because some kids don’t have one, so maybe Mary is a caregiver and God is just the “sperm donor” this way we can make all feel welcomed.

In the public square I am called a races if I disagree with our President. The liberals have forced me into a corner in the hopes that I will abandon my convictions in favor of their liberal agenda. I must conform to the liberal ways, they must force me out of my conservativeness for my own good. And they will stop at nothing to achieve this goal. They will even enact laws to force my conservatism. Social healthcare is the first of many laws designed to make me dependent upon the liberal system. Yet they accuse the conservative of forcing our ideals unto others, of trying to legislate morality, yet it is the liberal judges that legislate form the bench, it is the liberal politicians that enact laws to prevent freedoms and liberties, yet the conservatives get the blame. The liberals wish to kill talk radio (fairness doctrine), force the faithful to choose between faith and the government (forced abortions) yet it is the conservatives who get the blame.

The public square and the Church share a fate, one of historic proportions, we, the conservatives, take back our places in the square and the Church.  We must stand tall and fight the good fight. Too much is a stake, our country and our souls…

Paul
