Occupy Wall Street and the Founding Fathers

363882969

The new movement, Occupy Wall Street (OWS), is interesting, not because I agree with them, I don’t. I happen to like money and capitalism, I find that working and having money is a good thing, no it’s interesting because of the contrast between them and the Tea Party people…. Now, I have not taken part in any Tea Party Protest, I wanted to, but was unable to do so, but had friends who did attend. The words they used to describe it:

  • Peaceful
  • Clean
  • Respectful
  • Patriotic
  • American
  • Constitutional

With OWS I hear the following:

  • Disorganized
  • Mob
  • Rude
  • Demoralizing
  • Woodstockish (due to the nudity and open sex)

Never once have I heard anyone associated with OWS mention the constitution or be able to talk with out using the F-bomb at least 50 times in a 2 seconded statement.

A big difference…

The Tea Party is truly going back to our American roots. The founding Fathers, for the most part, did not want a war with England, they wanted peace and stability. They wanted to remain English subjects not succeed and form a new nation. They just wanted the basic freedoms and rights afforded to every citizen of Britain. War and violence was a last resort, one many did not want nor agreed with the option of war. There were some who were willing to wait a a little longer, thank God the Founding Fathers did not…

Leading up to the American Revolution were a series of actions, protest and other political decent. including but not limited to:

  • Letters to the editors
  • Political books
  • Political pamphlets
  • Peaceful protest
  • Town Hall meetings
  • Letters to the King of England
  • Letters to fellow statesmen
  • Letters to Parliament

Each activity was designed to sway hearts and minds, not force them through violence. The Founding Fathers used logic and history to make there arguments, not utopian feelings and dreams. They were realistic in there views on politics and the world around them. They wrote letters to sway public opinion and denounced violence.

When Alexander Hamilton ordered the burning of a British merchant ship in protest to British Taxation on tea, he first ordered all the cargo and ship hands off and onto dry land, placed the ship out of port and than set her on fire. The message was simple and clear, we oppose taxation with out representation. But we do not wish to harm. When the Boston Tea Party (the original one) took place there was to me no violence, it was to be a peaceful protest. The same can be said about the New Tea Party, but not the OWS crowed, they are calling for violence, they are advocating it and directing it.

Over the past few days I have heard about:

  • Condoms being passed out (what does this have to do with Wall Street?)
  • Sex in the open
  • Anti-Semitic statements
  • Illegal Protesting (no permit)
  • Illegal camping (no permit)
  • Relieving one self in public
  • Trashing protest grounds and not cleaning up after themselves
  • Threating to hack into Wall Street computers

Does not sound like something the Founding Fathers would have advocated. Don’t believe me, read Thomas Pain’s writings or any of the other Founding Fathers. Violence was a last resort, they wanted to use the system to fix the system. The Tea Party of today wishes to do the same, they want to use the power of public opinion and the voice of vote to change they system, not the threat of violence or the rule of the mob.

If the OWS crowd really want to make a difference, go and occupy 1600 Pennsylvania Ave,  pitch you tent there, relieve yourself on Obamas front lawn and have your sex there. Wall Street is not the issue, failed government is. And yes, not just Obamas failed government, but government in general has failed. Bush did a few stupid moved in his tenure as President also. The failure of the Government has been a long time in the works.

"I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve."

~Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto referring to Pearl Harbor

spiritof76-1The American Spirit is strong and resolute, she is the spirit of Washington and Adams, a spirit that fights for freedoms and liberty and allows for the pursuit of happiness. The Tea Party flows with this spirit swelling and growing and changing the course of America returning Her to he roots. The OWS spirit is spiteful and derogatory in nature, perverting the Founding Fathers into grotesque caricatures of themselves. The sleeping giant has awoken and will be heard, yet he will not speak through the Occupy Wall Street protect, for there is no room for her amongst all the hatred and violence, for the American Giant Admiral Yamamoto was referring to was a reluctant warrior, one dedicated to peace and freedom, one slow to anger yet resolved in her defense.

Immigration reform

One of the many hot topics, both in politics and religion, is immigration reform. From the Arizona law to the US Catholic Bishops from the halls of Congress to the water cooler, everyone is talking about it. It is a hot topic, one that many have an opinion on and one that many consider to be the next great battle (oops I’m sorry, I’m not suppose to use words that sound aggressive according to CNN news…. Ah, the hell with CNN).

Americans and America has always welcomed immigrants, our country is made up the worlds unwanted or people seeking a better life. That is not an issue, I say welcome to everyone. America has always held her arms wide open and taken in the words cast off. And I say God Bless America.

But that does not, and should not mean that we as a nation should put the safety of our citizens at risk. The idea and concept of allowing anyone to enter into our county for any reason is a silly and not so humane concept. When has it ever been ok to allow others to infringe upon the safety and rights of citizens. At what time  in our history have we allowed this? Some will say slavery and the Irish immigrants or the Chinese immigrants who worked the rail road. Or what about the Japanese that were placed in camps after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. All scars upon America and all regretted by this nation and her people. But none were illegal immigrants, or as the liberals like to call them, undocumented workers, what ever that means. The Mexican border issue is an issue of national security, it is an issue of human rights and an issue of law.

With 6.5 million illegal aliens coming across our southern border each and every year, we must be crazy not to consider it a National Security issue. We stop little old ladies and 5 year olds at the airports for pat downs, but we think it is ok to allows millions into our country with out even asking for a passport… Come on, even a liberal must see how nuts this is.

Some facts:

  • In Los Angeles, 95% of some 1,500 outstanding warrants for homicides are for illegal aliens. About 67% of the 17,000 outstanding fugitive felony warrants are for illegal aliens.
  • There are currently over 400,000 unaccounted for illegal alien criminals with outstanding deportation orders. At least one fourth of these are hard core criminals.
  • 80,000 to 100,000 illegal aliens who have been convicted of serious crimes are walking the streets. Based on studies they will commit an average of 13 serious crimes per perpetrator.
  • Illegal aliens are involved in criminal activities at a rate that is 2-5 times their representative proportion of the population.
  • In 1980, our Federal and state facilities held fewer than 9,000 criminal aliens but at the end of 2003, approximately 267,000 illegal aliens were incarcerated in U.S. correctional facilities at a cost of about $6.8 billion per year.
  • At least 4.5 million pounds of cocaine with a street value of at least $72 billion is smuggled across the southern border every year. ..
  • 56% of illegal aliens charged with a reentry offense had previously been convicted on at least 5 prior occasions.
  • Illegal aliens charged with unlawful reentry had the most extensive criminal histories. 90% had been previously arrested. Of those with a prior arrest, 50% had been arrested for violent or drug-related felonies.
  • Illegal aliens commit between 700,000 to 1,289,000 or more crimes per year.
  • Illegal aliens commit at least 2,158 murders each year – a number that represents three times greater participation than their proportion of the population.
  • Illegal alien sexual predators commit an estimated 130,909 sexual crimes each year.
  • There may be as many as 240,000 illegal alien sex offenders circulating throughout America. Based on studies, they will commit an average of 8 sex crimes per perpetrator before being caught.
  • Nearly 63% of illegal alien sex offenders had been deported on another offense prior to committing the sex crime.
  • Only 2% of the illegal alien sex offenders in one study had no history of criminal behavior, beyond crossing the border illegally.
  • In Operation Predator, ICE arrested and deported 6,085 illegal alien pedophiles. Some studies suggest each pedophile molests average of 148 children. If so, that could be as many as 900,580 victims.
  • Nobody knows how big the Sex Slave problem is but it is enormous.
  • The very brutal MS-13 gang has over 15,000 members and associates in at least 115 different cliques in 33 states.
  • The overall financial impact of illegal alien crimes is estimated at between $14.4 and $81 billion or more per year. Factor in the crime as a result of the cocaine and other drugs being smuggled in and the number may reach $150 billion per year.

Is it the intention of our leaders both religious and political that we, law abiding citizens or law abiding visitors who entered our country legally be subjected to this? Can anyone really claim that allowing this to happen is a good thing…

I know, many are saying that’s why we need to give them amnesty, because once they are made full members of our Great Nation they will become peaceful law-abiding citizens who pay taxies and raise there children to love thy neighbor. Really… Do you really believe this, because if you do I have a bridge I would like to sell you.

America is a nation of immigrants, and we must allow immigrants to move here and to prosper, but we must enforce the law of the land, because a nation with out law is a nation destine to fail. I pray the the US Conference of Bishops (USCCB) will wake up and understand that immigration is not a one sided story, that they, the USCCB have an obligation to not only the illegals crossing our borders, but also to the law abiding citizens in there care. As for the polititions, well we can only hope for the best, that they wake up soom, or we vote them out come 2012.

God Bless

Obama wants longer school years, not a new idea at all

Charter School of Wilmington side entrance

The debate of the longer school year has surfaces yet again, and in truth, I have been in this debate for years. In Michigan, when the state first started to offer charter schools, my brother and I ventured to start one. We were the proud owners of Midwest Tech, a school that offered classes to the automotive companies. We saw the opportunity of starting a charter school as an opportunity to educate the youth of Michigan to enter in to high paying engineering jobs. With our experience in the industry, we felt we could offer something other schools could not.

One of the offerings was a more “work” structured school, including, but not limited to. a longer school year. Our reasoning was much along the same reasoning as being offered now: keep up with the worlds best, allow parents to better plan time off and help the students retain information from year to year.

Below is an article concerning Obama’s comments on a longer school year:

GOPUSA » News » Obama wants longer school years

The problem with education does not come down to days in class nor hours in class, but basically and simplistically, it is a problem of how and what we are teaching. Teachers today are teaching to the standardized test and not to the students. We are trying to play catch up with China and Japan, yet forgetting that we have what it takes to be number one in education, its called the American way.

Americans are not, incase you have not noticed, Japanese or Chinese. We are country of risk takers and innovators and our educational system should reflect this reality. We are a nation built on hard work and finding solutions that are outside of the norm. Our system of education should be no different.

We as a nation, need to stop looking to Japan, China and the other nations of the world to find our solutions, we need to stop trying to be followers and become, once again, the leaders that we know we are.

America is a nation that leads, not a nation that follows, we seem to forget that. Our school system is a mess and has been getting worse ever since the federal government got in to the game of education. We need to revert back to state and local control of our education. The feds need to allow the local communities the ability to implement the best solution for themselves. Not a mandate from up high. Obama, like all other politicians, seems to feel that he knows best, that he, in DC can dictate what our local communities need. They, in Washington, could not be further from the truth. What we need is to be left alone. What we need is a union free educational system that is held accountable to the community, The parents and local business will work at keeping the schools inline and the city and state government will guarantee the education of out youth.

Maybe we need to look back into history, look back to the Greeks and there concept of education. A concept based on critical thinking and expression on great ideas. I read an article the other day in a Catholic newspaper talking about a new online Catholic university that is doing just that. The curriculum is based on “Great Books” and open dialog. The basic idea is simple, each week you read a classic book, the following week, as a class, you discuses the merits of the book. You have an open mind and a guided debate and allow critical thinking to take place. Sure this is not the fix all to our system, but it is one solution that will work to help create a generation of well educated critical thinkers. Something our nation is missing.

Our educational system can not and should not be a one size fits all solution. We need a mix of opportunities to fit our diverse communities. For some a year round system would work, for others a more technical education would work and for yet others a more Greek system would be better.

It is time for the teachers unions to stop protecting themselves and time for out teachers to serve the best interest of our children, It is time for out communities to step up to the place and offer solutions that fit the needs of today and it is time for our Federal Government to back off and allow the communities the freedom to do so.
