Germany, Liberals and Me

I just returned from a trip from Germany and was reminded why I dislike liberal point of views. As always the Germans feel a need to tell me how great Obama is and who the rich need to pay even more in taxes, as if they have a vote or say so in America.

As always, being a conservative, I am a target for all that is wrong in the world, the poor, air pollution, the ice caps melting and any and all issues near and dear to the heart of any bleeding heart liberal. I am all to happy to confront them with facts, but just like American liberals, the Germans don’t want to be confused with facts, they just get in the way of there grand plan. Simple facts like under Obama our economy had gotten worse, or more Americans are now on food stamps than any other time in our history (to this the nice liberal German responded “cool”).

Trying to explain that the “rich people and big bad corporations” create jobs, and when you tax them they have less money to create jobs and there for more people go on government support. Funny thing was, they see nothing wrong with this.

I just don’t get it…

But I think it all comes down to personal responsibility. now that is a word that liberals can’t even begin to understand, nor do they want to, because if they did, well that would basically remove all there pet projects. No more social engineering of the market place, no more welfare  programs to hold people back and freedom (another word liberals just do get) to succeed or fail.

Liberals believe that government knows better, that the powers that be can solve any and all problems, that basically the people are just to stupid to know what is right. Well, if that is true, than how can we trust ourselves to vote in people who are smarter and know better? To me, if I didn’t think the people were smart enough to govern there own lives, I’m not to sure I really want them to pick someone to do it for me… How could I trust myself to do the right thing?

Now Conservatives, we know that people, over all, will do the right thing, we trust in our fellow man to come though for us. And we understand that government is to be small and efficient and must stay out of our personal lives and allow the free market to do its thing. There is no such thing as “to big to fail” (yes I know some Republicans think there is, but they are not Conservatives) we understand that over time some things fade away and others come and replace it. Coming from Detroit, I would have hated to see GM go away, but understanding the free market, if you can’t keep up, than the market will take care of it. GM did not need the Federal Government to take them over, in the end all they did was file for bankruptcy, GM could have done that all on there own, with out big loan from the Feds. Just look at the history of this nation, major companies have come and gone, and new companies replace them, it’s the nature of business. It’s the process of natural selection, the strong survive, its just a process of evolution. Now you would think Liberals would embrace that, they keep pushing evolution on us, yet when it comes to this, they decide that a managed approach would work better.

When Conservatives talk about a managed approach, we are mostly referring to wild life and hunting licenses, or fishing permits, and here the Liberals go  nuts…. Once again they claim the natural approach. So if I understand the Liberal mind set here is what I get from all this:

  • People cant be trusted to do the right thing
  • Government is the answer to all of life’s issues and problems
  • Managing wild life with hunting is wrong
  • Managing business with regulations is good
  • Natural selection only applies to the animal kingdom
  • Humans can forgo natural selection by opting to abort a life
  • The death penalty is wrong because it aborts life
  • You don’t have to earn your money, that is degrading, the government will just give it to you
  • Welfare is a stimulus to the economy, not a drag on it
  • Forcing social issues on the people is the best way to conversation
  • Freedom is over rated

The list could go on and on, but you get the basic idea… Liberals are all about control, control of government, control of business and control of you. The more they can get there hands into my pocket and take my money the more I will need to depend upon them, the more control they will have over me. Yet people keep voting them in to office… I don’t get it… Are we to afraid of taking personal responsibility that we are all to happy to vote in socialist… I pray that America has learned her lesson and that our first great socialist President, Obama, will be a one termer. Now Obama is not the first socialist President, just look back at our history, The New Deal is a perfect example of socialism in the United Stated, the difference, Obama ran on his socialistic issues, and won in a land slide and he has not backed down from it one bit. Even though the American people, overwhelmingly don’t want it. Take ObamaCare, a majority of Americans do not want this social engineering of our healthcare, most Americans want a responsible solution to our healthcare issues, not a government run system. Yet Obama don’t care what we want, he knows better. Just listen to him when he talks, when he says things like “Now I want to be perfectly clear” or  “Now hear me out” what he is really saying is, “look, your just to stupid to know what is best for you, so just do as I tell you”. A perfect example of this was during his “Big Jobs” speech before the joint session of congress, you know when he keeps saying “Pass this bill now”. Two things about that:

  1. There was no bill at that time
  2. It’s not the presidents job to dictate to congress

But what does Obama care about what his job is or not, he tramples on the constitution so why not just make his job up as he goes along.

Yep, my trip to Germany reminded my why I love being a Conservative… It’s good to trust in your fellow man and not in your Government…

9/11: How it’s changed American and me…

a2bWith the 10 year anniversary of 9/11 upon us, I thought I would take the time to reflect a little on the event and how I have seen America change and how I have changed. First off, we all are 10 years older, maybe wiser, but that can be debated. It’s hard to imagine still that we, the United States of America, were attacked and the 3000 people lost their lives for no good or valid reason. That a few simple-minded religious fanatics decided that flying planes in to buildings, killing innocent people, was the best way to get their message across. Still seems like a made for TV movie or a bad summer teen flick where the hero would be some 17-year-old boy who discovered the plot when he was hacking into the governments secret computer system.

But it happened, it for better or worse it has changed the American land scape. We now have long lines at the airport where 70-year-old grandma’s along with 10-year-old children are searched the same as some Muslim extremist. To me, this is a case-in-point were profiling would be well worth our efforts. As far as I know no 90-year-old grandma nor any 10-year-old has blown up a building as of late, but I am sure we have seen this sort of activity from the Muslim extremist. We all profile people daily, and we should. When I travel to different parts of the world I am always on the look out for people who “just don’t look like they are up to any good” and I am always told by my friends who live their what to look out for. That sounds life profiling to me. Our teachers do it daily, or at least they should, they should be looking for the students that are more prone to cheat or steal. We have reports and findings on this almost daily in the news. Reports that tell us that a child that lives with only his or her mother is more likely to do bad in school and life. To be on the look out to help them and to better understand them. That is profiling… And we should do it, it can save a life, like the life of the teen whom we profiled to be at risk, or my life when I profile a potential terrorist based on there Muslim identity.

So that is one way that 9/11 has changed America,  and one that has caused lots of debates both for more security and less for profiling and not. The debate is healthy and good for America and we should continue it, it is how our government works best, when We the People are involved in the discussion.

I have also seen America become more united, directly after the attacks and then seen her become more divided as time went on. Creating a political hot potato out of the events out of 9/11. I have seen reasonably intelligent people blame the United States for the attacks and others declare it to be the work of the United States Government, all so President Bush can go to war… I have seen people who were for the war turn agents it for political gain and use 9/11 to create emotionally gain votes. But I have also seen heart-felt pain and longing on the face or true Americans who understand the devastation and lost.

9/11 has changed the face of American, it has torn at the fabric that makes this nation great. In some respects it has made her greater and in others it has not. Like most things in this world there is always two sides to every story, and 9/11 is no different.

As for me, it has created a pride for my nation that I have never known. I was always a flag waving proud American, but 9/11 has reminded me the America is the defender of freedoms throughout the world, that she is the light shinning on that hill and that America is the symbol of freedom and liberty that beckons to all who desire it. 9/11 has awaken in me my sense of duty to participate in the great experiment called America, to vote to be informed and to engage in debate. It has awaken in me a sense of urgency to learn and to grow. To watch and to read, to become an informed citizen of this great nation.

The terrorist failed in there attack’s on America, the 3000 did not die in vain, America will come back stronger and wiser because of 9/11 and the world will once again know her for what she is, a land of Liberty and Freedom. A land that is welcoming to all who wish to enter (legally)  and to all who need the protective arms of Lady Liberty. America has changed as have I, I am more resolved than ever before to defend all the America stands for, I have never been prouder to state “I am an American!” (unlike Mrs. Obama) and I will never apologize (like Mr. Obama) for Americas exceptionalism. I will continue to wave my flag and hold it high, I will continue to show my pride in America and I will always state “I am proud to be an American”.

This week I will travel to Germany (September 12) and I am sure the topic of 9/11 will arise, an I am sure I will be hit with anti-American rhetoric. And I am also sure that I will stand strong and proud as I defend her abroad. America is my home and my love, my nation is dear to me and I will defend her honor till death. Patrick Henry said it best when he said “Give me liberty or give me death”.

Sure America has her issues and her spotted past. Slavery is a black ark upon her soul, but she also has her silver linings and admirable attributes. America, like any other human endeavor, will  falter from time to time, but unlike any other republic ever conceived, America will, as it always has, correct her course through debate and discourse and the power of the vote. “We the people” has meaning and power in America, and as history has proven, We the People are not afraid to use it. No other nation in history has helped so many and ask for so little in return, no other nation in history wins the war, rebuilds the nation just to return her back to the people. America is a proud nation, a nation of Peoples who are willing to die for the ideals that define her. Our past is filled with patriots who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms, they have spilled their blood upon the soil of not only this nation but the nations of the world, in the defense of an ideal, that all people are created equal and free. That liberty is worth the fight and that the gains will out number the losses. Yes it is true that loss of any life is not cause for celebration, but it is also true that sometimes the ideal is worth the fight. The principles that make up the American character are simple and true, the words are known by some, but sadly not by all, our founding Fathers sacrificed all they had to declare and defend these basic life principles.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

America is the land of the free and the home of the brave, she is the shinning light upon the hill-top and a 9-11beacon for all who seek truth and liberty. America is all that she set out to be and will be, for we are a nation of people who believe in the ideals our founders established for us, we are a nation of freedom lovers and defenders of the truth. 9/11 has shown me this, besides all the political grandstanding and anti-American Americans. The true heart of America still beats and pumps the red, white and blue blood through our veins and the flag still flies high and proud.

On this tenth anniversary of 9/11 take the time to thank our military and first responders, hug your children and tell them you love them. Fly the flag with pride and remember the ones that lost their life in the cowardly attacks of that faithful day. Take the time to read-up on our nation, our founders and the first principles of this great nation. On this anniversary take the time to stop into a church or synagogue or mosque, give thanks to God for this great nation and ask for His guidance and grace. Spend a few moments in silence and solitude, and remember that day, lest we ever forget.

Bloggers Block…

Sometimes the hardest part about writing a blog, or anything for that matter, is just getting started. Today is one of  those days. I did what I normally would do, I read the news, looked at other blogs and quotes. But nothing jumped out at me. Sometimes the ideas come easy and just flow out of me, and other times I start the blog 3 or 4 times, and end up just walking away from for a day or 2, sometimes even longer.  But today I can feel that I have something in me that wants to come out, but I just don’t know what it is yet. So I will wait, I will just sit and wait…

Did more research, and yet nothing.. But I know it’s there, I can feel it….

I keep telling myself that I need to write my ideas, so when things like this happen, I always have a back up.. But I never do it. Most of the time my ideas come to me when I am reading, and I am not one for marking up my books or keeping a note pad by me. But I really should, maybe not mark them up, but use sticky notes or something. With all the different books I read at one time, it is often times hard to remember where I read what.

I think one of the hardest parts of blogging for me is the research part, I’m not really all that  into researching. That’s one of the main reasons I don’t do a lot of articles that are based in research, but more that are just my thoughts and feelings. Every-now-and-then I will do some researched based articles, but its hard for me.

One of the projects I am working on is going to force me to do research, and make me organize all my information. This also is a week spot for me. I’m not a very organized person, but if I want to do this project, and I do, than I will have to learn to research and organize my information.  So maybe that will also help me with my blogs… Maybe I will learn some tricks  and tips along the way.

With my new iPad (I won it!) maybe I will become more organized, I am trying but just have not found the tools (apps) I like yet or just don’t know what apps I need.  The one tool I do like to use on the PC is OneNote by Microsoft, but I have not found a iPad app for this yet. But even my OneNote is not truly organized, it’s a bit of a mess…

I just saw a video about a new app for WordPress to help with organization, I think I will look into it, see if it helps. But in truth the only thing that will help is me writing down my ideas, someplace, writing post ahead of time and doing the research needed. So maybe what I need to do is this:

  • Create an editorial schedule weeks in advance
  • Research and document sources
  • Set up a publication timeline
  • Organize my thoughts
  • Keep to it!

I think that’s the plan, and that’s the direction I want to go. I also should decide on the topics that are  discussed on this blog:

  • Faith & Reason
  • Politics
  • Catholic Teachings
  • Founding Fathers
  • Saints
  • Self Help

So should I stick to this.. Call it good and work from there, maybe a set rotating schedule?

Monday:  Faith and reason

Tuesday: Founding Fathers

Or just leave it as a what I finish and what is ready? This I think will be more the case than not. But I should try to give a little of each every week or so, or do I not concern myself with that.. Maybe I should only post once per week, or should it be more… .In the past, when I started blogging I posted daily, sometimes more that once per day, I must have had lots to say. Now its hard sometimes to post once a week… Maybe it’s because I am trying to do a better job, make my post mean more, feel more and be more… Or maybe that’s just what I tell myself because I am getting lazy… Not sure….

The 20 things that bug me

  1. When your in a store and the person in front of you is on there phone and checking out. They always take longer, because they are more concerned about there phone call than checking out. Really, you mean to tell me the call cant wait 5 minuets why you are checking out, and it never fails that they talk load….
  2. When you open the door for someone and they don’t say thank you, come on, it takes 2 seconds to be nice and say thank you. I have been in the habit of saying it for them. And the funny thing is, they give me the funny look, like I’m the rude one.
  3. When your at a red light and the person in front of you decides that’s a great time to look for some long lost item in there car. You mean to tell me that could not wait until you got home and parked in your own driveway… Really…
  4. People who walk there dogs and allow there dogs to do there business on your law, and don’t pick it up. You see them looking around to make sure no one is looking. As far as I know your dogs crap in not my responsibility.
  5. When you are having a debate or discussion with some who disagrees with you, and when you start to win the debate, they resort to name calling. Come on, grow up!
  6. SPAM messages to your blog say how great your blog is, in bad English.
  7. When I am Holy Mass and the person next to me decides that having a conversation about some thing or other is a good idea, and when you give them the “look” they act as if you are disrupting them.
  8. Parents who allow there kids to run around stores and restaurants as if it is there personal play ground.
  9. Parents that cuss at there children, really, that’s the best you can do. No other word would have worked? Give me a break.
  10. When you hear about a gang member being shot and killed, and the parent/relative/friend say “They were a good boy, they never did anything wrong”. I guess being in a gang don’t count.
  11. Make-shift memorials at crash sites along the road site. I understand the need to express your sadness and remorse, I even understand the need to somehow mark the event. But it seems that every time anyone gets a hangnail a make-shift roadside memorial pops up.
  12. The need for people to want to be part of everyone else’s tragedy.  When a teen dies in a school it seems that teen must have been the most popular kid ever. Every student seems to post RIP on there Facebook, but if you ask them if they were good friends, the response 9 times out of 10 is, I didn’t know them. Than why are you posting RIP, for the attention? to feel part of it all? Because its what everyone else is doing?
  13. Store clerks who talk on there cell phones or to other workers why they are waiting on you. I am not really all that interested in your weekend plans or who did who…
  14. People who move to this country than bash it… Move back home if America is that bad…
  15. Liberals who praise Cuba or other such countries. Praising there health care or governments, yet ignoring the fact they killed millions of there own people and the people live under fear and oppression.
  16. Sales people who wont leave you alone. I know they work on commission, but don’t they understand that you get more flies with honey than vinegar. If and when I need help, I will ask.
  17. People who voted for Obama, just to be part of history. Really, that’s how you decide who is going to lead the free world, based on the fact that it will make history.
  18. The attitude “I am owed” this or that. We see it in our teens and young adults all the time. There first job they expect to make $100,000.00 and when they find out they are making only $1500.00 they get a little indigent.
  19. School teachers who blindly teach a perverted version of American history.
  20. Unions…. Just because they exist

Well there you have it, the 20 things that bug me….

10 Simple rules for life, with complex results

Out lives are often times disordered and chaotic. With all the driving, planning, parenting and working, we often times forget to care for ourselves, and the result is we  find ourselves burnt out and unable to do, or at-least do well, all the driving, planning, parenting and working we are required to do. The truth is, there are simple things we can do, each and everyday that will help to make order in our lives, re-focus out energy and allow us to do all the driving, planning, parenting and working we need to do.

tem simple rules, that in the end have very complex and dramatic results. Each rule is something we can do throughout the day to help us center ourselves and bring a calming to our souls.

So here we go:

  1. Smile, a smile can change not only our outlook on life, but also the lives of the ones who received your smile
  2. Laugh, it has been said that laughter is the cure… and it is, learn to laugh at yourself, find the humor in the everyday
  3. Pray, start the morning off with prayer, setting yourself into a humble existence
  4. Listen, nothing makes someone feel wanted and loved like listening to them with intent
  5. Relax, not only will you feel better, but so will all who are around you
  6. De-clutter, clutter on your desk, in your car or at home will cause you to stress (read number 5)
  7. Breath, learn to take breathers throughout the day, little 5 minutes breaks will do wonders for you
  8. Dream, A dream i s like an escape, dream of your perfect vacation or perfect date, let yourself go to that space and revel in it
  9. Read, read about someone you admire or read positive thoughts or uplifting verses
  10. Create, creation is paramount to our existence, God created us in His image, there for we are created to create

The above 10 items are just starting points, use them, nurture them and grow them. I know that they will change your life and your outlook and the added side effect, it will also change the lives and outlooks of all you come in contact with. Simple rules, complex results, can’t ask for much more.
